Jan Brandes (11 Aug 1743 - 1808)
Brandes was a Dutch artist, taxidermist and missionary. He arrived in the Cape Town in 1787 on his way back from a mission in Batavia. He has been praised by the Rijksmuseum for his extra-ordinary watercolours found in two sketchbooks which were left to them after his death in 1808.
