Robert Jacob Gordon (29 Sept 1743 - 25 Oct 1795)
Gordon was a Dutch explorer, soldier, artist, naturalist and linguist. He went on more expeditions than any other 18th-century explorer of Southern Africa. He was responsible for naming the Orange River and introducing Merino sheep to the Cape Colony.
