Robert Jacob Gordon (29 Sept 1743 – 25 Oct 1795) was a Dutch explorer, soldier, artist, naturalist and linguist. He went on more expeditions in Southern Africa than any other 18th-century explorer, and was responsible for naming the Orange River and introducing Merino sheep to the Cape Colony.
