Inspiration: Inspired by a family memory of Amanda’s mother recalling her grandfather, Jurie Laubscher, discovering a fish fossil on Spandouskop in Graaff-Reinet in the early 1900s. That memory led to the discovery of Atherstonia scutata, a 250-million-year-old fossil from the Eastern Cape — a reminder of how stories, like fossils, are impressions preserved through time.
Design: This design reimagines the fossil’s intricate markings into a rhythmic pattern that feels both ancient and fluid. Soft tones of antique rust and pale blue sit against a black-and-white, deconstructed square motif inspired by the original fossil impression. It reflects the meeting of earth and water — elements of endurance, erosion, and renewal. A translation of time layered within stone, a story long buried.
