Inspiration: Unearthed from the siltstone of Graaff-Reinet, the fossil Cistecephalus (Sista-sef-a-liss) tells a story of persistence beneath the surface. Its name, meaning “box head,” refers to its sculptural skull - a symbol of adaptation and endurance in ancient terrain.
Design: This carpet channels the fossil’s compact symmetry and burrowing strength, reinterpreting it into a contemporary form that honours transformation and resilience. Textural layering and dimensional weaves echo sediment and stone - the foundations of both earth and memory.
