Inspiration: Koper (Copper) honours early landscape sketches by explorer John Campbell (1812) of the mountains surrounding Graaff-Reinet. Some of these drawings include Sneeuwberg, Magis Kloof Berg, Spionkop & Reed Port Berg, as they were known at that time. These mountains and peaks now form part of the Valley of Desolation. These drawings, some of the earliest visual records of the Karoo, bridge history and horizon - hand-drawn traces of place and time.
Design: Rendered in tones of charcoal, stone, and antique rust, this carpet deconstructs those early sketches into a woven topography. The result is a subtle landscape in thread - memory and material blended into one.
