Inspiration: During her journey through the Eastern Cape from 1864 to 1867, Mrs A.H. Harkness documented the landscapes around her in delicate watercolours. She accompanied her husband, J.G. Harkness, on his assignments, and these artworks reveal the vistas, settlements, and natural details she witnessed along the way—quiet studies of a region during an era of exploration and change.
